I work at CION Cancer Clinics in LB Nagar. For many patients I am the first specialist they meet. I know how shaken a family is on the day a diagnosis arrives, so I do not rush that first meeting. Cancer has three main treatments: surgery, radiation, and medicines (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy). Most oncologists study only one of these. I first did my MD in Radiation Oncology at Manipal, then my DM in Medical Oncology at Guwahati. I did both on purpose.

Here is the reason. Head and neck cancers, certain lung cancers, and cervical cancer often do better when chemotherapy and radiation are given together. This is called concurrent chemoradiation. Instead of running between two separate doctors, I can hold both sides in one mind and give you a single, joined-up plan.

When a patient comes to me, the first thing I ask is whether the diagnosis is truly complete. In lung cancer especially, I am reluctant to start a medicine without molecular tests like EGFR, ALK, and PD-L1, because that one report can change the entire treatment.

I speak honestly with families. I will tell you how much a treatment is likely to help and what its limits are. Giving false hope is not fair to a patient. If radiation is not needed, I will not add it. If a medicine alone is enough, I will say so.
