Most families first ask where to begin. My advice is simple: confirm the diagnosis and stage first, then make a plan. If you send the reports you already have on WhatsApp, I can give a first view even before you travel. That helps lower the fear and take the first step in the right direction.

Let me say what I do when I see a patient for the first time. I do not start treatment just on hearing the name of the cancer. I first confirm the type and stage from the biopsy and scans, and only then decide which treatment and in what order. Starting with the right plan matters more than starting in a hurry.

Yes, and asking for a second opinion is reasonable, not an insult to anyone. If you have already started treatment elsewhere and want a fresh review, share your reports and we will go through them with you. For families coming from a district, you can send your scans and biopsy report on WhatsApp first, and I can give an initial view before you travel. A clear in-person consultation is still better before any plan is finalised.

Both. I hold an MD in Radiation Oncology and a DM in Medical Oncology. In practice this means I can plan radiation and chemoradiation, and also think about chemotherapy and systemic medicine, in one consultation. It does not mean I work alone. Surgery is done by a surgical oncologist, and complex cases are still discussed in a tumour board so the full plan is agreed by the team.

Radiation therapy aims focused energy at the tumour to damage the cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue as much as possible. It is usually given as a short session, with you lying still on a couch, repeated over several visits. Chemoradiation means giving chemotherapy in the same period to make the cancer more sensitive to the radiation. How many sessions you need varies with the cancer type, stage and the goal of treatment, and I explain your own plan after seeing your scans.

There is no pain during a radiation session itself. The machine moves around you and may make some sounds, but you do not feel the beam, and each session takes only a few minutes. Side effects build up gradually over the weeks of treatment and depend on the area treated, for example tiredness or skin changes. Radiation is planned carefully on your scans to protect the organs nearby. I explain in advance what to expect so nothing comes as a surprise.

Treatment is decided from your reports, not from the name of the cancer alone. First I confirm the type and stage from your biopsy and scans. For many cancers the case is then discussed in a tumour board, where surgical, radiation and medical oncologists agree which treatment leads and in what order. Sequence and timing matter. The same treatments given in a different order can give very different results, so the plan is built around your specific situation.

Consultations are comfortable in Telugu, Hindi and English. Many families are more at ease explaining their worries in Telugu, and I prefer that the patient and the attender both understand the plan clearly. If a medical term is confusing, ask me to say it again in plain words. A treatment decision you understand is one you can follow properly at home.
